News: Royal Run for Hope

Congratulations to Dominque Cabrera, President and Team member of the 15K Team of Herbalife Nutrition for being awarded Herbalife Corporate and Recognition's Humanitarian Award for North America. Dominique and her team were acknowledged for  their work in establishing The Royal Run for Hope, now in its ninth year to benefit oncology patients at El Paso Children's Hospital.

"All the work we've done in the past eight years for the Royal Run for Hope is the reason why we received this award," said Dominique who can be seen in the group photo with our CEO and President, Cindy Stout.  Dominque is second from the left, second row. "I just want to thank all the ladies who participated because if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have been able to receive this award."

"We are so happy for Dominque," said Tina Aragon, of Herbalife Nutrition, one of five founding members who started the annual run. "This is the first time the award has come out of El Paso."

The five founders of the Royal Run for Hope event include: Dominique Cabrera, Christina Guevara, Tina Aragon, Martha Martinez and Desiree Lopez.

Junior League of El Paso Family Resource Center

Computers, books, resources for research and entertainment, and a library system were provided through a grant from Junior League of El Paso, Inc.  to establish a relaxing haven for patients and families at the Family Resource Center.

Sometimes when parents gets their child's diagnosis they need the grounding of knowledge and information.  It is frequently the site of a small patient with an IV pole or a red wagon pausing for a moment of storybook reading with their parent and the location of many a reading hour and a birthday party.

Gifts that support continued expansion of the educational resources available are ongoing and appreciated. Volunteers help support questions about the surrounding area concerning restaurants, church services or wayfinding.

Healing Arts Program

Evidence based research now strongly recognizes art as an essential component to health, healing and well-being.

Entirely funded through El Paso Children's Foundation the Healing Arts Program integrates dynamic and inspirational art from local and regional artists in every area of the hospital including the Hematology/Oncology, improving the hospital experience for patients, families and caregivers.

Gifts of Hats and Blankets

Some of the most meaningful gifts are the simple ones.  Cozy blanket and soft hats add soothing comfort and warmth.  Donated through gifts from student Service Projects, local organizations, even lovingly hand made from sewing and knitting clubs items blankets and hats are gifted to the patien.  So a constant supply is welcome and needed.

Compassionate Care Family Care Grants

Most children diagnosed with cancer undergo a three year regimen that strains their family's resources.  Social workers on campus refer families who are struggling to meet the demands of co-pays, medications, transportation and even food and clothing.  Compassionate Care Family Grants provide limited but necessary support to bridge difficult times.
