Pediatric Radiology & Imaging
A full range of imaging modalities is offered, including: conventional radiography, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy (ie. voiding cystourethrograms, esophagrams, upper GI series, video swallow studies and contrast enemas), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
With equipment among the most technologically advanced in the country including state-of-the-art high-resolution MRI and ultrafast multidetector CT, the radiologists are able to calibrate imaging tests to the lowest possible radiation dose while maintaing diagnostic accuracy. Our leading edge CT scanners minimize the need for pediatric sedation and allow for a significant decrease in radiation dose to safely protect pediatric patients.

Digital Portable X-Ray Machine
Portable x-ray machines go to the bed and make the image instantly available on site to ensure that the angle and quality is sufficient, then, wirelessly sent to pediatric interventional radiologists givng a timely response when minutes are critical. Saving patient movement, time and worry!
MRI Goggles
With the Foundation's help, El Paso Children's was the first hospital in six states to provide MRI Goggles for our pediatric population. Any adult who has had an MRI knows the trial (read agony) of not moving for a significant length of time during an MRI. Now, imagine a child in that position. That all changed with MRI goggles. The patient brings their favorite video. The technician plugs it in. Puts the MRI goggles on the patient and before you know it it's over. With the flip of a switch the patient can see and hear the technician as they check in and offer reassurance. Then back to the movie. (Now kids cry when the leave because they didn't get to finish their movie.) Which can greatly reduce the need for sedation
Vecta Distraction Stations
Even simple ultrasounds can provide challenging moments with a child that is sick, scared, or special needs. Vecta Distraction Stations create an empowering multi-sensory environment full of visual stimulation.
Easily portable, the Vecta Distraction Station converts patient rooms, treatment rooms or procedure rooms into a distracting and relaxing environment with bubble column, projected images and streaming fiber optics colors that can mean the difference between a calm curious child and a scared one. The Foundation funded one Vecta Station for each hospital floor.
Healing Arts Program
Evidence based research now strongly recognizes art as an essential component to health, healing and well-being.
Entirely funded through El Paso Children's Foundation, the Healing Arts Program integrates dynamic, inspirational art from local and regional artists in every area of the hospital including Radiology and Imaging, improving the hospital experience for patients, families and caregivers.
MRI Mayo Stands - $1062
Through generous donors, MRI Mayo Stands' are non-tip and the weighted flat base slides easily under the operating table. Its removable stainless steel tray is standard equipment with a hand wheel adjustment mounted on 2" ball-bearing swivel casters.
Trophon High Level Disinfectant System, $7,733.74
Between 6,000 and 8,000 patients per year are imaged and the transducer is in direct contact with the patient. The cleaning process is extremely important and specific. Trophon is the only automated seven-minute system that uses hydrogen peroxide and has been proven effective. It is faster and safer than alternative High Level Disinfectants.
GE Optima X-Ray System, $133,400
This portable and dedicated Portable X-Ray and digital detector is an exact match to the NICU's bassinets which allow the technician to minimize or completely eliminate movement of the infant during testing. The detector goes beneath the bassinet in an exact tray that is matched to the unit.
