B. Abigail Tarango, Ph.D
Executive Director
Dr. Tarango brings over 20 years of experience in education, including more than 7 years in executive leadership, to her role as Executive Director of the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation. A skilled strategist, advocate, and leader, she is dedicated to guiding the Foundation into a new era of growth and innovation. Her commitment to the Foundation reflects her passion for giving back to the community where she was raised and where she raised her own children.
Dr. Tarango holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership. Her academic achievements and leadership expertise equip her to advance the Foundation’s mission while fostering meaningful connections with the community.
With a focus on mission-driven work, Dr. Tarango collaborates with an active and engaged “power board” to lead fundraising efforts and support the El Paso Children’s Hospital, a vital safety-net, research, and teaching hospital. Her visionary leadership ensures the Foundation continues to make a significant impact on healthcare access and outcomes in the region.
Brittany Anchondo
Healing Arts Coordinator
Brittany Anchondo serves as the Healing Arts Coordinator for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, where she integrates art into the healing process for young patients. A native of El Paso, Brittany earned her Master’s in Art Education from Texas Tech University in 2022, where she focused on the transformative power of art in educational and therapeutic settings.
In her role, Brittany works closely with patients, guiding them in creating meaningful artwork that supports their emotional and physical recovery. Through her innovative programs, she provides children with a creative outlet to express themselves, cope with their experiences, and build resilience during challenging times. Her work not only enhances the hospital’s environment but also brings comfort and hope to patients and their families.
Brittany’s passion for art and her commitment to patient care reflect her belief in the profound connection between creativity and healing. Beyond her work at the hospital, she actively engages with the El Paso arts community, contributing her skills to local initiatives that promote art as a tool for wellness and empowerment. Margarita Enriquez
Program Director | Fundación de México
Margarita is a dedicated advocate for children in the border region, serving as the Director of the Fundación UMC de México since 2013. A graduate of both the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH) with a degree in Travel and Tourism and Park University with a degree in Social Psychology, she combines her education and passion to make a lasting impact. Through the Borderless Giving Program, Margarita has coordinated life-changing surgeries for over 100 families in Ciudad Juárez, transforming lives and offering hope to those in need.
With extensive experience in human resources, training and development, event coordination, and convention organization, Margarita plays a pivotal role in the success of the Fundación UMC de México. She acts as a vital bridge between El Paso and Juárez, ensuring children in underserved areas receive access to critical healthcare resources.
Margarita’s efforts include facilitating programs that direct funding to where it is needed most, addressing the pressing healthcare challenges faced by families in Ciudad Juárez. Her tireless dedication ensures the foundation continues to operate effectively, providing life-saving care and support to the region’s most vulnerable populations. In her personal life, Margarita enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, Beto, cherishing moments that inspire her commitment to helping others.
Rebecca “Becky” Friesenhahn
Director of Operations
With over 35 years of supervisory experience in fiscal management and more than 21 years in grants management, Becky brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her role as Director of Operations for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation. She plays an integral role in overseeing the Foundation’s day-to-day operations, including fiscal oversight and policy management, ensuring its continued growth and efficiency.
Becky holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and has extensive experience in data management and preparing detailed progress reports for various government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Her meticulous attention to detail and expertise in compliance have made her a cornerstone of the Foundation’s operational success.
Becky describes this role as the culmination of her career, blending her professional expertise with her passion for service. She finds immense fulfillment in a position that aligns with both her heart and soul while allowing her to apply her skills in fiscal management and grants administration to make a meaningful impact on the community. Jodi L. Gillet
Foundation Development Coordinator
Jodi L. Gillett is a mission-driven leader with a deep passion for nonprofit work and community
impact. Born in Ruidoso and raised in El Paso, Jodi’s dedication to service is rooted in her
upbringing and strengthened by her rich professional experience. As the Foundation
Development Coordinator, she plays a key role in advancing philanthropic efforts and supporting
the mission of the organization.
Jodi attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she was a cheerleader before
pivoting her focus due to health challenges. Her career in nonprofit leadership spans 15 years at
Hospice El Paso, where she held multiple director roles, including Director of Marketing, Director
of Philanthropy, Director of Volunteer Services, and Director of Veteran Affairs. Her impact was
profound, as she led the We Honor Veterans program to become the first in Texas to achieve
the prestigious 5-Star Partner designation.
Her dedication has been recognized with the 2023 Community Ambassador Award from Adult
Protective Services, honoring her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations. As a proud
Cherokee Indian, Jodi’s cultural roots further inspire her mission-driven approach to nonprofit
work.
Outside of her professional role, Jodi is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer with a deep passion for
diving and exploring underwater worlds. She is also a devoted animal lover, especially when it
comes to dogs, and cherishes time spent with her husband. Jodi considers it a true blessing to
be part of the Foundation team, where she continues to make a meaningful impact through her
passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to service.
Melissa Goytia
Fiscal Specialist
With over a decade of experience in nonprofit accounting, Melissa Goytia brings a wealth of expertise to her role as the Fiscal Specialist for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation. She is responsible for managing budgets, overseeing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, all while streamlining operational processes to enhance efficiency. Melissa plays a key role in maintaining the fiscal integrity of the Foundation and its associated entities, supporting the organization’s philanthropic and fundraising initiatives with her strong financial acumen.
Holding a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Melissa has developed a proven track record of navigating complex fiscal challenges in the nonprofit sector. Her attention to detail, strategic thinking, and dedication to excellence ensure the Foundation remains financially sound and impactful in its mission to serve children and families in the region.
A proud single mom to three amazing girls, all named after Elvis Presley, Melissa is a self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys cooking and creating lasting memories with her family!
Fernando Hernandez-Garza
Marketing and Communications Manager
Fernando Hernandez-Garza is a dedicated advocate for the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez communities, driven by a passion for philanthropy and the scenic arts. Born in El Paso, Texas, and having lived on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, Fernando possesses a deep understanding of the region’s diverse culture and unique needs.
As a Marketing & Communications Manager, he draws on a strong educational foundation, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Advertising and a Master’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). His career spans notable roles at Univision (2017-2020) and El Paso Children’s Hospital (2021-2024), where he spearheaded initiatives that elevated brand visibility and supported community-driven campaigns. His work has consistently focused on fostering community engagement and advancing philanthropic causes.
With a passion for social impact, Fernando remains committed to initiatives that strengthen border communities. His dedication to the scenic arts, combined with his expertise in marketing and communications, allows him to craft compelling campaigns that leave a lasting impact on the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez regions.
Amy Hussman
Director of Business Development
Amy Hussman serves as the Director of Business Development, bringing over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry to her role. A graduate of Austin College in Sherman, Texas, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Amy has had a distinguished career working with iconic establishments such as Coronado Country Club, the Plaza Hotel, and the Paso del Norte Hotel. Her expertise and dedication have contributed significantly to the success and growth of El Paso’s hospitality sector.
After marrying El Paso native Harry Hussman, Amy moved to El Paso in 1985 and has since become deeply involved in the community. She remains an active member of the Borderplex Alliance and the El Paso Chamber and was recently appointed to the Pan American Round Table, where she supports initiatives aimed at fostering regional growth and development.
Amy’s passion for enhancing the El Paso region, combined with her extensive experience and community involvement, makes her a key player in advancing the area’s economic and cultural vitality.
Addie Lanning
Information Systems Coordinator
Addie Lanning serves as the Informational Systems Coordinator for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, where she manages and maintains the Foundation’s data systems. In her role, she collaborates with each department to ensure data accuracy and accessibility, empowering the organization to make informed, data-driven decisions that advance its mission.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and extensive experience as a database manager, Addie has a proven track record of operational analysis and optimizing data systems for efficiency. Her expertise has been instrumental in streamlining processes and enhancing the Foundation’s ability to achieve its goals.
When she’s not working, Addie enjoys spending her weekends with her family and dogs, finding joy in quality time and playful moments. Her dedication to both her work and personal life reflects her passion for creating meaningful connections and fostering growth, both professionally and personally.
Patricia “Paty” Moreno Tercero
Administrative Assistant
Paty brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role at the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, where she provides far more than administrative support. Her strong work ethic, exceptional organizational skills, and sharp problem-solving abilities make her an integral part of the Foundation’s success. A graduate of the University of Phoenix, Paty holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and is committed to continuous learning, currently advancing her knowledge in finance and business models. Mia A. Romero
Director of Foundation Development
Mia, a proud El Paso native, is dedicated to advancing community well-being and fostering impactful initiatives in the borderplex region. As Director of Foundation Development for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, she leverages her expertise in healthcare, advocacy, and strategic development to build transformative partnerships and secure vital funding for the hospital’s mission.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UTEP (magna cum laude) and leadership roles like Vice President of Advocacy and Government Affairs at the El Paso Chamber, Mia has championed initiatives in healthcare, economic development, and sustainability. Her career spans behavioral health, nonprofit development, and public policy, with a focus on aligning strategic goals with community needs.
Mia is deeply committed to creating opportunities for El Paso’s children and families, working to ensure access to exceptional healthcare services. Beyond her professional endeavors, she finds joy in exploring El Paso’s vibrant culture, discovering local coffee shops, and diving into captivating books, all while celebrating the community she calls home.
Eduardo “Eddie” Rubio
Executive Assistant - Board Manager
Eddie serves in multiple capacities for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation and currently holds the role of Executive Assistant, where he is responsible for managing the Board of Directors. With a dynamic and engaged board consisting of 30 members, Eddie oversees board meetings, retreats, and committee activities, ensuring seamless operations and effective collaboration to support the Foundation’s mission. His organizational skills and attention to detail play a critical role in maintaining the board’s efficiency and productivity.
A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Eddie earned his Bachelor’s degree in Organizational and Corporate Communication. His educational background, combined with his strong interpersonal and administrative expertise, has equipped him to excel in the Foundation.
Eddie also brings a diverse professional background to his work. He has extensive experience in translation and transcription services for government agencies, demonstrating his versatility and ability to adapt to various professional demands. Beyond his role at the Foundation, Eddie is well-known in the El Paso community as the play-by-play announcer and analyst for the Spanish broadcast of UTEP Football, where his voice resonates with sports fans across the region.
Alexandro J. Simental
Grants Coordinator and Writer
Alex brings over 27 years of experience in government and nonprofit management to his role as Grants Coordinator and Writer for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation. A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Alex furthered his expertise by earning a Public Leadership Certification from the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
In his role, Alex proactively seeks funding opportunities that align with the Foundation’s mission and priorities. His expertise in grant writing and program development enables him to craft compelling, evidence-based proposals that clearly demonstrate the impact and importance of funding requests. His ability to align funding opportunities with organizational goals has been instrumental in advancing the Foundation’s initiatives.
Alex has an extensive background in managing federally and state-funded programs. He has served as Program Director and Principal Investigator for initiatives such as Title X Family Planning and Ryan White Primary Care Services. Previously, he worked as an organizational analyst for the City of El Paso Department of Public Health and was appointed state chair of the West Texas HIV/STD Community Planning Group. He continues to contribute to the community as a member of the Institutional Review Board for Centro San Vicente, a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Fabian Sustaita
Community Programs Specialist
Fabian Sustaita serves as a Community Program Specialist at the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, where he plays a vital role in implementing and managing programs designed to improve the health and well-being of the community. With over 12 years of experience in healthcare and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Fabian brings a deep understanding of public service and program management to his role.
Throughout his career, Fabian has been dedicated to addressing the unique healthcare challenges faced by underserved communities. At the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, he focuses on enhancing access to essential health services and fostering strong partnerships with local organizations to advance the Foundation’s mission. Alexa Velazquez
Program Director | Children's Miracle Network
As Program Director for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, Alexa plays a key role in raising funds and awareness for our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Since joining the Foundation in 2014, she has been driven by a heartfelt passion to ensure every child in the community has a healthier and brighter future. Alexa oversees campaigns with national partners, managing initiatives that collectively raise thousands of dollars annually—often one dollar at a time—through grassroots and community-focused efforts.
Before joining the Foundation, Alexa gained valuable experience as a sales executive for a local Spanish-language television and radio station, where she successfully developed, managed, and maintained advertising accounts. Her background in media and advertising provided her with the skills to build strong relationships and create impactful campaigns, which she continues to utilize in her current role.
Alexa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Media Advertising from the University of Texas at El Paso, combining her academic expertise with her professional dedication to making a difference in her community. Outside of work, Alexa enjoys spending quality time with her young child, watching movies, and exploring the great outdoors through camping adventures. Her commitment to family and her love for her community are at the heart of everything she does.
Carolyn Williams
Program Director of Community Programs
As the Program Director of Community Programs for the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, Carolyn manages Project C.A.R.E.(Community Access to Rehabilitation Equipment), the El Paso Health Car Seat Safety Program, the Compassionate Care Program, and the Foundation's Volunteer Corps. She is a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician Proxy, UMC CARES Ambassador, and a recipient of the UMC Star Award and Yellow Rose of Texas.
Carolyn has dedicated 23 years to non-profit programming, passionately serving people in need of resources and assistance. During her 10 years with the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, she has been committed to the success of community programs and the overall endeavors of the foundation.
Carolyn believes in the importance and power of positivity when it comes to impacting the lives of children, adults, and families through injury prevention and education, engaging the community through volunteerism, and providing support services to individuals facing barriers to acquiring resources for their health and wellness.
