Dr. David F. Jimenez Memorial Fund
A Memorial Fund has been established
in honor of Dr. David F. Jimenez
Our borderland has lost one of its greatest champions of pediatric care with the sudden passing of Dr. David F. Jimenez. He brought innovation and an advanced level of expertise that has changed the lives and futures of many children. Before he arrived in our city, El Paso families had to travel hundreds of miles to get their child the advanced level of care that, in many cases, was required to live.
"We are truly saddened by the loss of David Jimenez," said Jacob Cintron, President & CEO of the El Paso County Hospital District and University Medical Center of El Paso. "He was a valued friend to many, including me, and he was a physican who cared deeply for his patients and their families. I enjoyed the valuable time he gave to me, to my team and our borderland. This is a tremendous loss for our community and especially for all whose lives he touched. I valued his friendship and will be forever grateful for the work he has done and the patients he has healed."
Dr. Jimenez saw the vast need for his advanced level of care in our region. "Bringing him to our hospital marked a milestone for improving care for El Paso's families," said Cindy Stout, President & CEO of El Paso Children's Hospital. "David's innovation and creativity not only helped our community's children but attracted other neurosurgeons to our community who sought to learn from him. Mere words cannot express our sense of loss."
He completed medical school and residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and his pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York City. He specialized in all aspects of pediatric neurosurgery with a focus on minimally invasive approaches. He was Board Certified in pediatric and adult neurosurgery. He had patients from all over the U.S. and the world who traveled to see him for his expertise in endoscopic craniosynostosis surgery. Dr. Jimenez pioneered endoscopic surgery to treat craniosynostosis in his pediatric neurosurgery work. He is known nationally and internationally as an ingenious surgeon who changed the lives of thousands of children and their families.
Internationally recognized for developing the Endoscopic-Assisted Craniotomy more than two decades ago, Dr. Jimenez, was honored by America’s Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, among many others. The list of medical honors and awards is extensive, reflecting his lifetime work as a thought leader, sought-after lecturer, well-funded researcher, and prolific writer. He dedicated his career to the training of the next generation of neurosurgeons and has been caring for families locally and from around the world for more than 30 years.
"Dr. Jimenez was an incredible board member, our colleague, an advocate for people and healthcare needs of our region, he was our friend. We will forever cherish our time together. The Foundation was fortunate to have witnessed David's true passion and support as partners in serving the University Medical Center of El Paso and El Paso Children's Hospital. You leave a legacy, and we honor you and all that you taught us, Dr. Jimenez," said Dr. Abigail Tarango, Executive Director of the University Medical Center Foundation of El Paso and El Paso Children's Hospital Foundation.
Dr. Jimenez will forever be missed by the patients he served and everyone who knew him at UMC, EPCH, our Foundations and all who knew him or witnessed his kindness and brilliance as a surgeon.
